Homework - 9/22/2016

Using 'Hookpad', recreate the chord progressions to both "The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson and "Waiting on the World To Change". DO NOT use the TheoryTabs that already exist. DO feel free to use Google to find the chord progressions to those songs, and use your ear to find the key so you can convert the chords to 'relative notation' (Roman Numerals). Then, be sure the chord progression follows the "groove" as well, using the '8 circle' page (called a "rhythm necklace") in order to figure out what beat the chords change on. Adjust the chords accordingly in Hookpad.

Then, for one of the songs, create your own melody. Use the 'stable' notes as a guide and consider creating melodies that feature repetition and variation. Consider taking an 8 measure chord progression and creating your melody in 2-measure phrases (perhaps 3 phrases that are repetitive and a fourth that is different). Experiment with different ideas until you come up with something you like.

Next week, we will start looking at how you can take "sketches" you make it Hookpad and begin to 'produce' them using more advanced music software.
